Tardy again. It’s Thursday after the Tuesday board meeting. My wife says I need sleep more than I need to be on time. I’m not sure I agree, but whatever.
At least the Easy Button image didn’t jinx me. Meeting was 90 minutes, but I don’t think it could have been any shorter given the agenda.
Board Meeting #
Water’s Edge #
Thanks to all who came out to see the presentation and to the presenters for presenting the presentation. As I led with, we’re in full and quick disclosure mode on this property. You’ll see everything as soon as we hear it. Look for some board action soon to create a vision and range of options for the property.
Addressing the comment made on social media about legal fees related to TID 5, I promised an update. We discussed it at some length at Wednesday’s Finance Committee meeting. I don’t know that we got any closer to the actual questioned invoice and what work was done for whom, but we did conclude that the board needs to give clear(er) direction to the staff on expectations for TID 5. Whether legal or any other expense, I think the board believes the expense number should be near zero until we get closer to having a vision, let alone an active plan, for the property. We can argue back and forth to figure out who did what when, or we can focus on ensuring we are aligned between staff and board and that no one is surprised by expenses. Honestly, we should do a bit of both, but the latter is more important than the former right now.

And we would be wise to apply the same discussion to all of our larger problems and projects. Nothing’s worse than making the same mistake across projects.
Ordinances and Resolutions, New Business, Continuing Business #
Easy, peasy. Nothing controversial at all.
Closed Session #
Nothing good ever comes of closed session. We came out of closed session and agreed to engage a law firm to represent us on the issue. Just what we needed, more legal expense.

Committee of the Whole #
Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) #
We told staff, “Yes, we want you to craft zoning code changes to define standards for ADUs.”

Agenda Management #
“Expect awkwardness considering it’s our first try.” – This proved true. But it’s really important to me and we’ll keep at it. Full transparency into priorities, active projects, and pending decisions solves the vast majority of our communication problems and keeps us quickly moving on to the next set of problems.
